Audit Director - Digital Assets (Boston Based - Fully Remote)
Our client, a nationally recognized CPA firm headquartered in Boston, is seeking an Audit Director – Digital Assets to lead the technical foundation of its blockchain assurance practice. This leadership role is responsible for transforming complex on-chain data, token economics, and protocol functionality into clear, audit-ready testing frameworks. The Director will partner closely with engagement teams, firm leadership, and external technology providers.
This is a full-time, fully remote position with periodic travel to Boston. The role offers a competitive base salary of $170K–$190K plus comprehensive benefits.
Lead the technical strategy and infrastructure supporting the firm’s blockchain and digital asset assurance practice.
Translate complex blockchain data structures and network activity into audit-relevant testing procedures (e.g., token ownership, smart contract execution, validator operations, custody validation).
Partner with engagement teams to interpret tokenomics and their implications for accounting areas such as revenue recognition, liability classification, and asset valuation.
Manage relationships with third-party blockchain data and analytics vendors, overseeing selection, implementation, and ongoing collaboration.
Act as the technical bridge between blockchain engineers and audit professionals to ensure that all procedures are audit-ready and properly documented.
Design and refine firmwide tools, templates, and methodologies for new and emerging blockchain protocols.
Guide teams through on-chain assurance testing using explorers, APIs, and data analytics platforms.
Contribute to training and internal documentation on blockchain assurance methodologies and risk assessment.
Provide thought leadership on emerging risk areas such as DeFi, token bridges, off-chain custody, and cryptographic signature verification.
8+ years of experience in blockchain/crypto, assurance, or risk management, with strong familiarity with blockchain data.
Deep understanding of blockchain architecture, consensus mechanisms, wallets, token standards, and smart contracts.
Hands-on experience using blockchain data tools (explorers, APIs, analytics platforms).
Knowledge of key audit assertions and related testing procedures (existence, completeness, ownership).
Proficiency in SQL; experience with Python or Solidity is a plus.
Experience in client service, audit tooling, or vendor management preferred.
CPA preferred but not required with demonstrated audit framework understanding.
