Reports to : Head of Interpreter Operations

About the Opportunity :
Bond Communications was established in 2023 and in April 2025 launched BondVRS with a mission to reimagine the VRS space both for the Deaf user and the interpreter. As a private company that gets its funding from both hearing and Deaf individuals and leveraging no institutional money, we have the flexibility to take a step back and build our service together with the Deaf community. Every week, based on our learnings from our users and from our interpreters, we are iterating on our existing features and launching new ones. As a result, our users now have closed captions for all of their VRS calls, can share context with the interpreter ahead of the call, and with a click of a button – can invite our interpreters to any external video conferencing platform (Zoom, Google Meet, Team, WebEx, FaceTime, etc.).

Our greatest pride and differentiator is our talented team of passionate, highly skilled American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, who help us bring our mission to life. Beyond delivering top-tier ASL interpretation, our interpreters play a key role in testing innovative approaches to better serve our users. Interpreters collaborate closely with our Product, Engineering, and HR teams, and actively contribute to enhancements that improve the overall experience for both the users and the interpreters.

Position Summary
The Interpreter Lead is a new position, which will play a critical role in driving BondVRS's mission forward. The person will lead the interpreting team, help cultivate the organization's culture, oversee the daily interpreting operations, and provide coverage during times of high demand.

Interpreter Leads are at the heart of our growth — guiding interpreters, maintaining operational excellence, and collaborating across departments to ensure our platform continues to set the standard for innovation and inclusion in the VRS industry. By supporting interpreters' success and well-being, the Interpreter Lead directly contributes to Bond's ability to deliver world-class access for the Deaf community and scale responsibly as we grow.

This position is open to both internal and external candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a day-to-day resource for the interpreting teams by providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Create interpreter schedules, review timecards and review and approve contractor invoices. 
  • Collaborate with the Head of Interpreter Operations on recruiting, onboarding, and retention efforts.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, startup environment and adapt to evolving needs.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and collaboration aligned with BondVRS values.
  • Monitor team performance, quality, and operational efficiency, providing accurate and timely reports.
  • Provide high-quality American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services on the BondVRS platform as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Interpreter Operations and cross-functional teams to align goals, improve tools, and enhance workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, FCC regulations, and confidentiality standards.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and teamwork while supporting company priorities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Fluent in American Sign Language and spoken English with demonstrated accuracy and professionalism in interpretation.
  • Current RID or BEI Advanced certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in an interpreting or VRS communications-related environment.
  • Deep understanding of Deaf culture, the interpreting profession, and relevant FCC and code of conduct standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Experience in employee training, performance management, and conflict resolution
