Role Overview :
The Airport Inspector ensures a uniform level of safety at all Indiana airports. The inspector is in charge of inspecting and certifying public and private use landing facilities. The inspector is also responsible for the administration of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Master Record Program. These annual inspections are required to certify public-use airports, seaplane bases, heliports, and ultralight flight parks to ensure compliance with Indiana Code and Indiana Administrative Code. The inspector provides technical assistance to proponents of new private and public use airports, seaplane bases, heliports, and ultra-light flight parks. This includes conducting the data collection inspection, completing the FAA 5010 Form, updating the airport layout sketch, processing payments, and corresponding with the FAA on all related matters. The airport inspector provides technical assistance to the aviation public and aeronautics staff and attends FAA seminars, and promotes safety and security on airports. INDOT is responsible to certify all aircraft landing areas in the state according to IC 8-21-1. Additionally, each public or private airport receives certification from the agency in order to conduct legal operations. The Office of Aviation visits a minimum of 128 facilities each year for an annual safety inspection or initial certification in accordance with IAC 105-3.

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $53,222.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
